Placemats You Can Use as Conversation Starters With Your Kids
.

Tips for using the "placemats":

Listen to the answers when your kids respond. Really listen. Resist the temptation to correct or judge. This is not lecture-time, this is listen-time. It’s also a wonderful time to communicate deep respect for your kids… even though sometimes it may challenge the best of parents. One good way we do that is by thoughtful listening.

Some good responses might be: “I didn’t know that,” or, “Say some more about that,” or, “How does your answer make you feel?,” or, “Did you know you felt like that?, or “That’s really interesting; I’m glad to know that.”
