School Isn't What It Used to Be School isn't what it used to be. There are more stressors for kids, and often more difficult social challenges than former generations of kids of all ages had to face. Peer pressure, bullying, and social anxieties can take their toll on kids in hallways, classrooms, and lunch rooms. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) can help. You'll find some very helpful materials if you click here. There are also a couple of pretty helpful videos for parents on that site. Look at the index down the right hand side for "Videos." Topics include talking to your kids about drinking, how to talk to your teen before they head out to a party, developing better listening skills as a parent...lots of practical help and most of it is in short video form. |
